DPRAA: A New Direction

We held our bi-monthly meeting last night and had a total of 6 members in attendance. Between those present, we talked about the direction of the group and adjusting our goals and ambitions.

What we have concluded is that we are going to simplify things a bit.

With a relatively small active membership base, it is extremely difficult for us to conquer the world like we had initially intended. As much as we would love to say that the DPRAA was responsible for some historical change in the river, it just isn't feasible at that this time.

As a result of this, we have decided that this club is to be a club based on the common passion for fishing in the Des Plaines River. Rather than focusing on major conservation efforts, we will focus on sharing each others stories, fishing successes, and friendship. In a nutshell, the club can essentially be called more of a social club with the river being our common ground.

Our meetings will still be held on a bi-monthly basis but will be much more social in nature. We will share stories about fishing and what ever else members would like to talk about. We will also be holding more on the water meetings.

With that said, we will still promote individual responsibility of conservation. We all need to pick up after ourselves and encourage others to do the same.

In closing, we hope that this change will make this club a bit more enjoyable for all members, new and old. Let's get out there and have some fun!

Kankakee River Clean Up - Sept 15, 2012

Hello fellow DPRAA folks!

Even though we are a group committed to the betterment of the Des Plaines River, many of us fish other rivers like the Kankakee.

With that in mind, the Northern Illinois Anglers Association is have a clean up for the great Kankakee river this coming Saturday - the 15th of September.

They need all the help they can get so if you can get out and help, it would be greatly appreciated by all!!

DPRAA Clean Up Results!

In total, we only had 6 members in attendance. Since the turnout was small, we focused on tackling a few big items in a smaller area.

Recently, the Hoffman Dam has been removed and that has drawn quite the audience that like to hang out on the bridge to watch the progress. Unfortunately, the view from the bridge has been jaded with sights of old tires and other garbage in the water.

Our goal was to make that view a nicer one and the goal was accomplished!

Here are some photos from the day

DPRAA Clean Up Crew - Great job guys!

Lets Fish!....and clean

Hello Fishers,

Don't forget that this Saturday, We will be meeting at the Hoffman Dam at 9am. Coffee and donuts will be served!! Fishing and Tomfoolery to follow. Before we head home we would like to do a quick clean up of the area. You know fill a bag or two of garbage. Lets keep is simple!

With the rain that we have had recently the fish should have their feed bags on. Feel free to fish from shore or wade the river.

Thank you and hope to see you out there.
